Patient of the Week - Kim, Ken & Kat the Kookaburras

Age: Nestlings Sex: Unknown
Found: On the groudn at Stanmore after they fell from their nest while the tree was being removed.
Transported to: The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital by a local resident concerned for their wellbeing.
Veterinary Assessment: Dr Amber assessed the featherless youngsters, and found while they were very hungry they were in good condition, and had luckily not sustained any injuries.
Outcome: With no wounds or injuries, Dr Amber decided the best course of action was to return the nestlings back to the wild as soon as possible, as their parents were returning to the site where they had been found. The three babies were placed in an articificial nest in a nearby tree, and we are pleased to report a happy family reunion.
AZWH Statistic: Birds are the most commonly admitted animal to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, with 33 orphaned fledglings brought in during the month of October. Please phone us if you are suspicious of injured or abandoned baby birds.
