Patient of the week - Jeffery's Girl the Black Flying Fox

Jeffery's Girl the Black Flying Fox

Age: Baby (62g) Sex: Female

Found: Alone at Caboolture, far too young to be separated from her mum.

Transported to: The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital by the concerned local resident who found her.

Veterinary Assessment: Dr Amber assessed Jeffery's Girl and found her to be very cold, dehydrated, lethargic and hungry. Her chances of survival in the wild without mum were next to nothing.

Treatment: Dr Amber immediately placed Jeffery's Girl into a warm incubator in the Nursery ICU overnight to raise her core body temperature, and also a good feed.

Future: Jeffery's Girl is now with a local bat carer, and will remain there until she is old enough to return to the wild on her own.

AZWH Statistic: 832 orphaned wildlife have been admitted in 2011, with many more expected this summer. Please donate to help our vets and nurses continue their lifesaving work over Christmas!
